The hamlet of Hicksville is located within the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, Long Island, with a population of over 41,000 spread among seven neighborhoods. Neighbors include BethpageWestburyPlainview and Levittown

The hamlet was named after Valentine Hicks, who purchased land in the area for a railroad stop in the 1800s. Hicksville gained popularity as a commuter-friendly suburb after World War II; many commuters still call Hicksville home. Only 27 miles fromMidtown Manhattan, its local Long Island Railroad (LIRR) station is one of the most heavily used on the line; the Long Island Expressway runs along the hamlet's northern border and proximity to three additional major highways makes car travel easy. 

Much of Hicksville's housing stock was built in the 1950s ; single family homes include ranches and Cape Cods among other styles. There are a few large apartment complexes here as well. 

One of Hicksville's main attractions is Broadway Mall, a sprawling shopping destination anchored by national chain stores. Though Hicksville is a fairly quiet and residential burg, the nearby towns of HuntingtonMineola and Bethpage offer plenty of dining, nightlife and cultural optio
